Joyce Becker Lee has seen a lot of changes, worn many hats, been many people. She is first and foremost a mom, her most important role, but writing has always been a very close second. As such, she has written for newspapers, radio and magazines, has developed textbooks and maintains an online newsletter and blog presence. Her fiction, poetry, and features have been published locally, regionally, nationally and even internationally, and she has earned state awards in journalism and community service. A former high school English/Drama teacher, she recently earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Northwestern University, where one of her stories was  nominated  to appear in The Best New American Voices 2010. In addition, she is the author/composer of a dozen children’s plays and musicals, all of which have been produced and await publication by some forward-thinking publisher. In her spare time she enjoys performing in and directing plays and musicals.

    Hi Joyce,
I saw your profile on the SeniorPeople site. I was impressed with your accomplishments.
I am a retired electrician and took up writing 8 years ago as a hobby. It is now a weekly column for 3 small town papers in my area. I write poetry, have a manuscript of about 20 veterans stories that I would like to add to and publish and recently wrote an end to my novel
I too have acted (in community theater), designed and built sets as well as being stage manager for high school productions when my kids were in school.
My wife of 45 years passed away 5 years ago and that’s how ended up on the Senior site. I am much older than you, but you sound like an interesting lady to know!

    Hi, Russ–
Thanks for writing. It sounds like you keep busy, which is wonderful. And congrats on finishing your novel! I have a couple pending, and I know how hard it is to finish. Your collection of veterans stories sounds like somethat that could be wonderful–I hope you complete it and share with the world. I find writing such a wonderful, cathartic activity. The hours fly, and sometimes I am going all morning, and only stop when my dog comes over and whines for attention and a walk.

    Keep on keeping on!
